Today’s ProSieben blockbuster has to give way to the football games of the NFL (National Football League). On September 11, the cable station will first broadcast the game between the New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins from 7 p.m., followed by the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Arizona Cardinals from 10:20 p.m. The fact that ProSieben omits the usual feature films on Sunday evenings in order to broadcast American football is nothing new – but unfortunately this time the sports broadcast falls on the Sunday on which we would have last seen a Sunday blockbuster on ProSieben…
Because even on September 18, the Sunday in a week, there will be no feature films on ProSieben in the evening – the station is ending the era of Sunday blockbusters. The new program offensive will then begin on September 18th. Instead of free TV premieres, Marvel fun and “Star Wars“-Adventure, there are docu-soaps and in-house productions.
The new “Traveltainment” show “Local Hero” starts on September 18 at 8.15 p.m., in which celebrities from all over the world face special challenges. And from 10:20 p.m., we’re going to distant countries: In the new documentary format “Fahri sucht das Glück” Fahri Yardim travels the world and looks for answers in different countries about what makes people there happy.
Why will ProSieben no longer show feature films on Sunday evenings? The reason is said to be a lack of blockbuster supplies and a changed viewing behavior of the TV audience due to increased streaming offers, explained station boss Daniel Rosemann. Feature films often come to streaming services shortly after they hit the cinemas – free TV is lagging behind a lot in terms of time. So ProSieben is now focusing on original content.
However, there will still be no lack of feature films on free TV on Sunday evenings. Even if ProSieben breaks with its long tradition: Other stations have nice films too! This Sunday, September 11, 2022, for example, we can offer you the drug thriller “Sicario” with Emily Blunt at 10:10 p.m. on arte (and therefore even free of advertising!) or the heist thriller “Hustlers” with Jennifer Lopez at prime time Recommend 8.15 p.m. on RTL ZWEI. Both films received 4 out of 5 possible stars in the DashFUN rating.
And yes, of course we have streaming tips for you too. Just have a look at our film tips from the editors for Netflix:
