[ATTENTION, CET ARTICLE CONTIENT DES SPOILERS !] The final credits of “Prey”, new feature film of the “Predator” franchise, suggests that Naru is not done with intergalactic hunters. Dan Trachtenberg confided in a possible sequel.
Prey : the Predator faces a new heroine
With PreyDan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) returns to the sources of the saga predator. After the grotesque general scrum, meaty but fun of The Predator, the director orchestrates a basic and brutal confrontation in the middle of nature. The director goes back in time and takes the viewer in the territory of the Comanches, in 18th century America.
Seeking to prove to her tribe that she is a worthy warrior, Naru (Amber Midthunder) spots freak lightning in the sky and is convinced that a new threat is in the vicinity. So she sets out to find him, and quickly discovers that it is an extraordinary hunter.
Captivating, neat, carried by a charismatic actress and giving the Predator an interesting new look that’s consistent with the era it’s set in, Prey ranks among the best films where the monster with the “lucky mouth” appears (discover our ranking here).
A detail that announces a sequel?
WARNING, the following lines contain spoilers!
The final credits of Prey retraces in animation all the adventures that have just taken place. It nevertheless ends with an unprecedented situation where Naru, now the war chief of his tribe, observes the sky and sees several Predator ships appear. Which suggests that intergalactic hunters will seek revenge after the death of one of their own? Asked by the HollywoodReporterDan Trachtenberg confided in a possible return of the heroine.
If the director admits having already thought about the events that could take place after Preyhe still wanted to design this opus as a complete film, not necessarily requiring a sequel:
The nerd in me looked as far ahead as he could, before we even started writing the movie, but the adult in me was like, ‘Don’t sell the bear skin and be careful. Try to make the best film possible. Aside from the end credits, there’s something refreshing about seeing a full movie. On the other hand, I love the idea of what would be a post-credits scene in another movie being an animated end credits in ours.
Dan Trachtenberg therefore has ideas for the future of Naru. It remains to be seen whether they will materialize. Prey is anyway to discover on Disney+.
