What happened to Alison? In the early 2010s, this question attracted millions of viewers around the world to their screens. In a total of seven seasons, more and more small and dirty secrets of the friends around Aria, Hanna, Emily and Spencer were uncovered in “Pretty Little Liars”. With Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, the series returns this year as a quasi-reboot (the series is set in the same universe but has a new main cast and also a new setting) on HBO Max, albeit a little differently than many fans might expect. A first trailer has now been released.
In Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, A returns – but this time as a brutal killer out for teens’ blood. In the reboot, the mystery series becomes a solid slasher in series format! In the first trailer, we already see a mask killer chasing down a new high school gang of friends without being squeamish about it -“Scream“-Killer Ghostface says hello!
From tranquil Rosewood it’s now on to the working-class town of Millwood. Twenty years ago, a series of horrific events almost tore the place apart. But the echoes of the tragedy echo into the present. A masked killer who goes by the name of A targets a group of high school kids to pay for their parents’ sins.
Tabby (Chandler Kinney) and the heavily pregnant Imogen (Bailee Madison) suddenly find themselves in the killer’s sights. In order to stand a chance against the brutal serial killer, they must work together with other teenagers in their high school. Together they not only bring the dark secrets of their parents to light, but also uncover their own lies.
Also on board is Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, a true teenage mystery expert who previously worked as a showrunner on the Netflix hit series Riverdale and the Sabrina remake Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
Season 1 of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin will be available on July 28, 2022 on HBO Max in the US. It is not yet known when and with which streaming provider the quasi-reboot will be shown in Germany.
