The ‘Peaky Blinders’ creator has dropped some new information about the upcoming movie. He notably revealed the time in which his story would take place and spoke about his casting.

The film Peaky Blinders when will it take place?

Nine years after the broadcast of its first season, Peaky Blinders recently unveiled its final installment in Britain. Elsewhere, and particularly in France, the end of the series will arrive in a few weeks. Specifically, on June 10, when Netflix will release its final six episodes. But these won’t mark the end of the Birmingham gangster universe. Because a film is currently in preparation.

A few weeks ago, Steven Knight had given news of the project. The creator of Peaky Blinders revealed in particular that he had started writing it. And during an interview for Subway, he recently said a little more about the story he will offer us on the big screen. While he once again didn’t go into too many plot details, he did reveal the era in which it would take place:

It’s a very specific story, based on a true World War II story, and will be told in the style of Peaky Blinders.

Steven Knight also speaks on the cast feature film

Knight also gave some information on the cast of the feature film. The writer and director first revealed that he wanted to include Stephen Graham in it. Introduced in the last season of the show, the actor plays Hayden Stagg in it. And the creator of Peaky Blinders paid him a fine tribute, suggesting that his character might even have greater importance in the film :

I was writing a character hanging around the docks of Liverpool, and I knew it could only be him. He’s awesome, and I want him to continue to be part of this universe in the future.

Several weeks ago, also for Subway, Knight also revealed that he would love for Vicky McClure to join the cast of his film.. Very popular in Great Britain, especially for his roles in Line of Duty and Broadchurchthe actress has also been playing since 2020 in the series Alex Rider. And the creator of Peaky Blinders will therefore offer him a role in the feature film on the Birmingham gang: “We will put her in the film if she wants to! » As for the rest of the cast, it is not yet known which members of the original series will return to the big screen.

When will the release of the movie be?

In any case, it will be necessary to be patient before finding the character of Hayden Stagg and potentially discovering the role of Vicky McClure. Because as a reminder, the shooting of the film Peaky Blinders should take place in 2023. The feature film should therefore not be unveiled before the end of 2023, or even the following year.. And there again, the feature film should not be the Birmingham gang’s final farewell to the screen. Because we should then be entitled to several spin-offs of the universe imagined by Steven Knight.
