Director James Gunn has just shared a preview of his upcoming “Peacemaker” series. Worn by John Cena, it is a spin-off series from the recent film “The Suicide Squad”. The show is expected on HBO Max in January 2022.
Who is Peacemaker?
In the comics, Peacemaker was created in 1966 by Joe Gill and Pat Boyette. Originally, this character was imagined for Charlton Comics, before later joining the DC Comics universe. At Charlton Comics, Peacemaker is portrayed as a superhero, but upon his arrival at DC, he is presented more as an anti-hero or even a supervillain. Originally, Christopher Smith is a diplomat who, to enforce justice when his legal activity proves powerless, becomes a costumed hero with many weapons that he uses against dictators.
The character has just gained noticeably in popularity since James Gunn decided to put it in his movie The Suicide Squad, released on July 28. For the occasion, it is the actor John Cena who lends his features to this rather particular anti-hero. The Suicide Squad received much more positive reviews than the first opus. Sadly, the feature film is a box office failure with only $ 165 million in revenue for a budget of $ 185 million. Nevertheless, James Gunn nevertheless wants to develop Peacemaker in his own series.
A new image for the series
Based on the character featured in The Suicide Squad, the first season of Peacemaker will include 8 episodes, written and directed by James Gunn. In addition to the return of John Cena in the lead role, the rest of the cast consists of Freddie Stroma, Steve Agee and Danielle Brooks. Recently, James Gunn revealed the very first image of Peacemaker on his Twitter account. In the photo, Peacemaker appears to have made new friends.
Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but it will likely explore Peacemaker’s origins. The latter is a man who believes in peace at all costs, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it. The show is set to debut in January 2022 on HBO Max, while the first trailer of the project will land on October 16 on the occasion of the second edition of DC FanDome.
