On March 27, 2022, Will Smith stunned the world of cinema and the entire planet by delivering a monumental slap to Chris Rock during the 94th Academy Awards. Actor and comedian Chris Rock had just made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head. Which was not at all to the taste of the actor and star Will Smith, who therefore got up and hit Chris Rock in front of tens of millions of viewers.
The next day, Will Smith apologized, before exclude himself from the Academy of Oscars a few days later. Far from the spotlight and with several projects suspended or even canceled, the actor of bad boys and of The Williams Method is currently very much in the background. For his part, Chris Rock continues to tour the United States, and it was during a performance in Phoenix on Sunday, August 28, that he said he refused to present the next evening of discount of price.
Chris Rock won’t return to ‘crime scene’
Invited by his public to speak on the slap of March 27, 2022, as the Arizona Republic reportsthe comedian therefore announced that he had refused the invitation of the Academy of Oscars to officiate again as master of ceremonies for the 95th Academy Awards, which will take place March 12, 2023.
Once a comedian, always a comedian, Chris Rock explained his decision with reference to to the murder of Nicole Brown Simpsonwife of OJ Simpson murdered on June 12, 1994, declaring that it would be like asking her to “go back to the restaurant”, the last place frequented by the victim on the evening of the murder.
Always in the tone of the joke, he continued by referring to the film Ali by Michael Mann, in which Will Smith played boxer Muhammad Ali, claiming that the actor was “bigger than him”and that “never would the State of Nevada allow a fight between them”.
The Academy of Oscars will therefore have to find another presenter, who will have the difficult task of turning the page on the dramatic edition of 2022.
