No “Titanium” statuette at the 2022 Oscars: Julia Ducournau’s shock film did not pass the intermediate stage of the Hollywood Academy in the race for nominations, and is therefore not one of the fifteen films still in the race .
The talent of Julia Ducournau and the Palme d’Or were not enough to convince the voters of the Academy of Oscars. Chosen by a commission of French professionals (filmmakers, producers, distributors as well as representatives of the Cannes Film Festival, Unifrance and the Césars), Titane has unfortunately not taken the crucial step of shortlist which reduces the list of feature films submitted by the various competing countries to fifteen titles.
Preferred last October at Bac Nord and L’Événement, the shock film worn by Agathe Rousselle and Vincent Lindon, perhaps too divisive and radical for American voters, will therefore not defend the French colors on March 27, 2022 in Los Angeles at the 94th Academy Awards, as Les Misérables (in 2020) or Mustang (in 2016) had done in recent years.
From Titane to L’Événement, an exceptional year for French directors
The fifteen feature films still in the running, which will soon be put to a new vote to retain only the five final nominations (announced on February 8), are as follows:
In 2021, Thomas Vinterberg’s Drunk won the golden statuette for Denmark.
