Of course there were some postponements, but in the end not even Corona could do anything to the mega-successful Eberhofer crime novels: while numerous other films flopped because of the then strict pandemic restrictions, “Kaiserschmarrndrama” attracted more than 1.1 million viewers in August 2021 * inside the German cinemas. There is much to suggest that the following eighth cinema case from Niederkaltenkirchen may even go (much) higher…
… In any case, “Guglhupfgeschwader” by series director Ed Herzog will start in German cinemas nationwide on August 4, 2022!
When the local kiosk owner Lotto-Otto (Johannes Berzl) has his finger cut off, the investigation leads the village policeman Franz Eberhofer (Sebastian Bezzel) and his department store detective partner Rudi Birkenberger (Simon Schwarz) to a casino in the Czech Republic. Apparently the gambling mafia has their fingers in the game. At the same time, things are happening in Niederkaltenkirchen because both Franz’ brother Leopold (Gerhard Wittmann) and the local plumbing expert Ignaz Flötzinger (Daniel Christensen) believe they have each won millions in the lottery. The only problem is that Lotto-Otto accepted the money for the lottery tickets, but never fed them into the system…
If you want to know how things will continue after “Guglhupfgeschwader” – the ninth case “Rehragout-Rendezvous” will start in German cinemas on August 3, 2023 and the underlying novel by Rita Falk is already available for purchase:
» “Rendezvous Venison Ragout” at Amazon*
When Flötzinger is waiting for his millions in an Eminem memorial outfit with a gangsta rap attitude, two Jehovah’s Witnesses stop by, who the medical expert believes to be the envoys of the lottery company – a mistake that will cause fits of laughter in the cinema itself when you would like to give the two poor missionaries a comforting hug afterwards (regardless of how annoying their ringing might otherwise be).
And that is by no means the only humorous highlight in the eighth part of the series, in which we slowly but surely let ourselves be carried away to the thesis: No matter how long the Eberhofer thrillers go on, there will probably not be a bad film in this series…
