Available August 31 on Disney + Star, “Only Murders in the Building” brings together two comedy geniuses, Steve Martin and Martin Short, and Selena Gomez for an entertaining series inspired by the craze for crime stories.
The stories of serial killers and mysterious disappearances are fascinating. And Steve Martin got it right. With Only Murders in the Building, a series he co-created with John Hoffman, the actor and screenwriter offers a program of 10 episodes which is inspired, with a certain hindsight, by the madness surrounding “true crimes“. For this, he surrounds himself with his faithful friend Martin Short. On screen, the two friends play New Yorkers living in a building that will quickly turn into a crime scene.
To document their research, they will launch a podcast on criminal stories and, most importantly, meet an alien, played by Selena Gomez, who will join them in their quest for the truth. Together, they will make it their mission to find Tim’s killer, a murdered young man. The series is part of the genre of whodunit, term used for detective novels referring to an enigma.
After meeting on the set of John Landis’ comedy Three Amigos in 1986, Steve Martin and Martin Short continued to work together in film and on stage. Only Murders in the Building sign their big return to the screen.
