The action film “One Shot” by James Nunn with Scott Adkins, Ashley Greene, and Ryan Philippe is to be discovered on VOD and on MyCANAL. It is apparently a single impressive sequence shot in the manner of “1917”. But how was it shot?
One-Shot: what is this action movie?
Available in France on VOD and on MyCANAL, the action film One-Shot takes place on a secret CIA island where terrorists are imprisoned. An elite team Navy SEALS must exfiltrate a detainee to avoid an attack in Washington DC But the mission is undermined when insurgents attack the prison and try to seize the same prisoner.

The film is directed by James Nunn and the cast consists of, among others, Scott Adkins, Ryan Philippe, and Ashley Greene. Led drumming during barely 90 minutes, this concentrated action is filmed in a sequence shot with impressive combat scenes. But how was it actually shot?
A single sequence shot?
In an interview given to Kung Fu Kingdom James Nunn unveiled his device.
The film is not a real sequence shot. But there were few cuts, and they are hardly visible. The fights, on the other hand, were done in sequence shots. The one between Scott Adkins and the French Jess Liaudin (the leader of the insurgents, MMA champion) was shot in a single take. And they weren’t holding back.
The real challenge for the team was the weather because the cloudy sky had to be matched on all the sockets.
Maintaining continuity with light is very complex. You can’t control the weather. This is a problem I hadn’t thought of during pre-production. And it’s only on set that I said to myself “damn, it’s sunny today”. And I needed it to be cloudy.
the director told the channel Ze Leakers TV.
The second challenge was the timing of the gunfight scenes. Indeed, as James Nunn said, all the gunshots in One-Shot are VFX. No shots were fired on the set with blank bullets because of the noise which would have prevented the sequence shots from being made.
The gunshots are so loud that you can’t communicate with people or film too closely. Even if it’s blank balls, it’s still dangerous. So we chose to shoot with fake firearms. So we had to find a system for people to know when to fall to the ground, because they couldn’t hear the “click” of the weapon. So, we developed a system where we shouted “1,2,3…” to people so that they knew when to fall.
A real challenge to discover on VOD or on MyCANAL.
