The Netflix adaptation of the anime mega-hit One Piece is slowly taking shape. Now the actor has also been chosen for Luffy’s mentor Shanks. Subscribers to the streaming service already know him from another successful Netflix series.

The long-running anime series One Piece is getting a live-action remake from Netflix. Now it’s finally clear who will slip into the role of Luffy’s mentor Shanks: It’s Peter Gadiot. The actor is known, among other things, for the Netflix hit “Queen Of The South” and the (at least in the USA very successful) thriller series “Yellowjackets”, which was released in 2021.

This is Shanks
Shanks is one of the most powerful pirates in the world of “One Piece”, although his true powers have still not been revealed after over 1000 episodes of anime. This is because he has only appeared very rarely in the series so far and usually settles his conflicts by simply glaring at his enemies. Nevertheless, he is extremely important to the plot of “One Piece”.
He once gave Monkey D. Luffy his straw hat, from him the rubber man got his superpowers (albeit unintentionally) and it was he who shaped Luffy’s image of the pirate life decisively. So everything the adventurous hero does is significantly influenced by emulating his role model, Shanks. If Netflix follows the lead of the anime, we may only see Peter Gadiot in a single episode in Season 1but maybe Luffy and Shanks’ past together will be split over several episodes as a flashback.
These “One Piece” roles have already been cast
In addition to Shanks, Netflix has already cast a number of other important characters for the “One Piece” live series. You can see what Luffy (Iñaki Godoy), Zoro (Mackenyu), Nami (Emily Rudd), Usopp (Jacob Gibson), and Sanji (Taz Skylar) will look like in the live-action adaptation in the following article:
A number of supporting characters and villains have also been cast: Morgan Davies as Luffy’s sidekick Corby, Aidan Scott as Helmeppo, Ilia Isorelys Paulino as Alvida, Jeff Ward as Buggy the Clown, McKinley Belcher III as Fishman Arlong, and Vincent Regan as Luffy’s marine grandpa Monkey D .garp
