Robert De Niro has played many different roles in his long career, but he is undoubtedly best known for the numerous gangsters he played at the height of his career for directors such as Martin Scorsese, Brian De Palma and Michael Mann while he was in recent years has primarily focused on more and less successful comedies.
However, if you want to see De Niro from a completely different side, you will find the right film with a subscription to Amazon Prime Video: “Der Sternwanderer”. In it, the two-time Oscar winner not only appears as the (supposedly) tough pirate captain Captain Shakespeare, but is later allowed to show a completely different side of his personality.
Of course, we won’t reveal what that is here, but it culminates in one of the most amusing scenes of a film that is not exactly lacking in highlights, in which the sounds of Jacques Offenbach’s famous can-can from “Orpheus in the Underworld” are on board the flying pirate ship is really wild. And that’s what “Der Sternwanderer” is about on Amazon Prime Video: Young Tristan (Charlie Cox) wants to find a falling star that has fallen to earth in order to win the heart of his beloved Victoria (Sienna Miller). But to do so, Tristan must cross the wall that separates his homeland from the magical kingdom of Stormhold. And what’s more, the star puppet turns out to be a young woman named Yvaine (Claire Danes).
Together they travel through Stormhold, taking on the evil witch Lamia (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Prince Septimus (Mark Strong), who are also after the fallen star…
