Lili Reinhart carries the Netflix comedy-drama “One Life or Another,” an overwhelmingly positive film that shows two different journeys to a happy ending.
A real sweetness with Lili Reinhart
Do you want a refreshing comedy-drama? Do not search anymore, One life or another is made for you ! In this Netflix film directed by Wanuri Kahiu, we find the sparkling Lili Reinhart in a dual role. Indeed, the actress plays Natalie who, the day before her graduation, decides to make love with her best friend, Gabe. A story of a night which will give rise to two different futures for the girl.
‘Cause Natalie will do a pregnancy test. And in a first version, the result will be negative. She can then leave quietly for Los Angeles and try to become an artist in the world of animation. But in another version, the result will be positive. She will then return to live with her parents, and keep her child by putting aside her professional dream.

One life or another presents these two worlds in parallel. We thus constantly pass from “Natalie in Blue”who was depressed before and after her pregnancy, “Natalie in pink”, based in Los Angeles and for whom life is also not so easy. Indeed, to clearly differentiate these two destinies, we find these two colors in the sets and in Natalie’s outfits. According to her story, the young woman constantly wears an outfit with blue or pink hues, whether with a t-shirt or a dress. Or in a more subtle way, with a scarf or even nail polish.
But the more the film advances, the more these two colors come together, add to each other (like during the babyshower where “Natalie en rose” goes). A way, in our opinion, of delicately announcing the conclusion of the feature film.
The end ofOne life or another
The two routes taken by Natalie are full of pitfalls and difficulties. We are so attached to both versions. Above all, however, we note the relevant representation of the life of a young mother and postpartum depression. Moreover, while the right to abortion in the United States was recently revoked, Une vie ou l’autre does not in any way go in this direction, but is for leave the choice to women (here Natalie).

The finality of the film also goes in this direction, because in both cases, Natalie manages to achieve her goals and to have a happy life. In the blue version, she finally gets in a relationship with Gabe and was able to draw inspiration from her experience as a young mother to get back to drawing, even allowing him to participate in a panel at the SXSW festival. In the pink version, she reconnects with Jake (her boyfriend in Los Angeles), directs her animated short and also presents it at SXSW.

The film ends with these two Natalies returning to the house where she took the pregnancy test. She looks at herself in the mirror, and tells herself that everything is fine. Thus, returning, for the last film shot, to the young Natalie who is about to discover whether or not she is pregnant, the film tells us that no matter the way borrowed, everything will be fine. We are then left to sort of choose our own version, knowing that both will have a happy ending. An extremely positive speech that seems to have touched a good part of the subscribers netflix.
