Five years after Gladiator, Ridley Scott returns to the historical fresco by directing Kingdom of Heaven, which takes place this time in the Middle Ages, during an unprecedented truce at the time of the Crusades. Despite a well-documented reconstruction and spectacular battle scenes, the film turned out to be a failure when it was released in theaters in 2005. The fault of the editing according to Ridley Scott who then released his Director’s cut version. Aired this evening, it rebalances the psychology of the characters and develops the political sub-plots, thus making the narrative more fluid. The opportunity, therefore, to appreciate at its true value the indisputable mastery of the director for the great epics.
