While Canal + is broadcasting tonight the last three episodes of the comedy of manners created by Julie Delpy (“My Zoé”), will we see a follow-up to the adventures of Justine, Anne, Yasmin and Ella?
Warning, this article contains spoilers!
Broadcast since September 6 on Canal +, On The Verge follows the daily life of three friends in their forties in Los Angeles, between marital crises, difficult professional reconversion, family life and sorority. Created, directed and performed by Franco-American Julie Delpy (2 Days in New York, My Zoé), will Canal + ‘s new Original Creation be entitled to a season 2?
If it is still too early for the channel to give the green light to new episodes, the outcome of the last episode, in which everyone gathers for a game of cathartic paintball, suggests a sequel.
While Justine (Julie Delpy) is obsessed with another man, an Argentinian chef met in San Francisco, her husband Martin (Mathieu Demy) is delighted to have finally landed a contract. For her part, Anne (Elisabeth Shue) announces to George her intention to become financially independent from her mother. As Yasmin (Sarah Jones) finally completes her secret mission, Ella (Alexia Landeau) ‘s show focused on her children is creating a buzz on social media.
But while everyone is monopolized by these upheavals, a mysterious virus from Asia seems to be approaching Los Angeles …
“This prospect of confinement is interesting“, says Julie Delpy.”I would be interested in closing the thread this way. The last episode is about the violence of the big decisions that are made, and it was fun to end on that.“
An end in suspension with COVID on the horizon, and the prospect of confinement as Justine prepares to leave her husband: so many possibilities that reshuffle the cards for a second season of On The Verge.
“From the moment the creator is available to consider a sequel, she does, and of course according to the audiences of the first season. But we are very optimistic, we touch wood“, says Fabrice de la Patellière, director of fiction for Canal +.”Ideally, we would like to shoot season 2 next summer.“To be continued then.
