After Steven Soderbergh’s trilogy and a female spin-off, the “Ocean’s” saga will return to center stage in a prequel worn by Margot Robbie.
Ocean’s : a cult saga
In 2001, the filmmaker Steven Soderbergh brings together a great cast for his heist film Ocean’s Elevenwith George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, Andy Garcia, Don Cheadle or Casey Affleck. Written by Ted Griffin and Harry Brown, the film tells how a gang of thugs come up with a crazy plan to rob a Las Vegas casino.
Great success, Ocean’s Eleven quickly became a major reference in the heist film genre.

With its $450 million at the box office for a budget of 85 million, Warner Bros decided to produce a trilogy dedicated to these very stylish gangsters, all directed by Steven Soderbergh. Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s 13 released in 2004 and 2007 respectively. In all, the trilogy amassed more than $1.1 billion in box office receipts.
In 2018, Warner had the bad idea to relaunch the license with a female spin-off: Ocean’s 8. Directed by Gary Ross, the film brings together a more than attractive cast including Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Helena Bonham Carter and Rihanna. Unfortunately, the film received disastrous returns and made the worst score of the saga at the box office, with all the same $297 million in revenue.
A prequel worn by Margot Robbie
But Warner does not seem to have given its last word. According to The Hollywood Reporterthe studio has just formalized a new installment in the saga Ocean’s worn by Margot Robbie. Although for the moment the plot remains secret, the film will be a prequel that will take place in the 1960s. Production is slated to begin in 2023, under the direction of Jay Roach (Austin Powers).

Beyond its relationship with the Soderbergh saga, perhaps this new Ocean’s will also have links with the very first movie Ocean’sentitled The Stranger of Las Vegasreleased in 1961 (the first film Ocean’s by Soderbergh is indeed a remake of this classic worn by Frank Sinatra).
