While “Obi-Wan Kenobi”, the Star Wars series, will arrive on Disney + on May 25, we are interested in the Grand Inquisitor who appears in the first trailer.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is a highly anticipated series
The first images of the series Obi-Wan Kenobi have finally been revealed! Disney has posted a content-rich trailer since, in addition to finding Ewan McGregor in the role of the Jedi, we can see (a priori) a young Luke Skywalker but also Owen Lars, played by Joel Edgerton. Additionally, the trailer focuses on enemies of the republic who will continue to hunt down the Jedi, especially Obi-Wan. Among these dangerous protagonists, there will therefore be the Grand Inquisitor. A character already introduced in other works Star Wars and that we can see several times in this trailer, recognizable with his white face and red markings.
The story of the Grand Inquirer
If his face means anything to you and you’ve only seen the movies Star Wars, it’s normal. The Grand Inquisitor is first a Pau’an, a species native to the planet Utapau. In Revenge of the Sith (2005), Obi-Wan goes there in his hunt for Grievous and is greeted by a Pau’an who tells him that they are being held, hostage. Concerning the Grand Inquisitor now, the latter began by an officer within the Jedi Order. Yes, before betraying them, he was himself a Jedi Knight. He is more specifically a member of the Jedi Temple Guards on Coruscant.
His change of sides is linked to the fate of Ahsoka Tano. She was wrongly accused of an attack on the Jedi Temple. First kicked out of the Jedi Order, she was later exonerated after Anakin discovered the real culprit. But this trial had consequences on the Inquisitor who began to question his camp and headed to the dark side. He was thus recruited by Palpatine after Order 66 and led the Inquisitorius to hunt down the last Jedi. It is from there that we will follow him in the series Obi-Wan Kenobi.
In the universe Star Wars
Besides in literary works, the Grand Inquisitor has appeared on screen but is animated. We were able to see it first in season 5 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the time of one episode. Then he had a more recurring role in star wars rebels (seasons 1 and 2). Finally, if there are indeed Inquisitors in the video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the Grand Inquisitor does not appear but is simply mentioned. Regarding the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, he is embodied in it by Rupert Friend. The actor had been seen in particular in Homeland where he played Peter Quinn. He was also Agent 47 in the movie Hitman of 2015. From what we have already seen of him in the series Star Warships version of the Grand Inquisitor should be pretty convincing.
It will be to discover on Disney+ May 25.
