Ewan McGregor will return as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars series. Before arriving on Disney +, the project around the Jedi had to be even darker than what awaits us.
Obi-Wan Kenobithe last Jedi
To say the least series Obi-Wan Kenobi is expected by fans of Star Wars. After having proposed The Mandalorian and The Boba Fett Book, Disney + offers the famous Jedi his own show. Mostly, Ewan McGregor, who played him in the prequel (1999-2005), is reprising his role. We will thus follow the character throughout the season in a story that will take place after the events of Revenge of the Sith (2005), and before those of A new hope (1977). To make it short, the Jedi were slaughtered and Obi-Wan fled to Tatooine where he watches over young Luke Skywalker. Corn dark Vador intends to find his former master and eliminate him. The Inquisitors are then sent to pursue and eliminate the remaining Jedi.

With the first trailer unveiled by Disney +, we say that the tone of the series will not be very happy. It must be said that with what Obi-Wan Kenobi experienced (the purge of the Jedi and the shift to the dark side of Anakin), the hero should not have the head for fun. However, EW teaches us that the series had to be reworked because the first scripts proposed something way too dark. And that even if the base was the same, the new team brought significant changes.
A complicated production
As early as the summer of 2019, the return of Ewan McGregor was announced (first for a film). But the following year, Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, put filming on hold because of the turn the story took explains the American media.
We seek, ultimately, to make a hopeful and uplifting story. It’s tricky when you start out with a character in the state Obi-Wan would be coming out of “Revenge of the Sith.” It’s a pretty gloomy time.
The producer then thanked screenwriter Hossein Amini and instead hired Joby Harold to take things in hand. We understand by this that it was necessary to bring a little more light to the scenario. However, given the characterization of the character, it is impossible to change him radically. And on that, Ewan McGregor was quite reassuring.
Obi-Wan is lost. He’s a broken man after what happened with the Jedi Order at the end of Episode III, but also what happened with Anakin, who he lost to the dark side. He feels enormous responsibility and guilt.

We are promised then that the series Obi-Wan Kenobicurrently planned for a single season of six episodes will take the form of a painful journey so that the Jedi can find peace, as explained by Joby Harold.
In the prequels Obi-Wan was very emotional. When we see him again in A New Hope, he is a Zen master. I wanted to understand what led to this.
If we’re still intrigued by Amini’s first script, we’re hopeful thatObi-Wan Kenobi just stay a deep and mature proposal. It will be to discover on Disney+ from May 25.
