It has been known for many years that Dwayne Johnson absolutely Black Adam wanted to embody – and now the film by “Jungle Cruise” director Jaume Collet-Serra is actually coming to the cinemas. Is that possibly the salvation for the DCEU, where for a few years it has hardly been recognizable from the outside what the big plan for the comic cinema universe is supposed to be? Especially the post-credit scene of “Black Adam” could possibly provide clear clues to the future of the DCEU – but until then we mostly see that from the “anti” of the anti-hero Black Adam unfortunately there is not much left on the big screen…
The conclusion of the DashFUN review: “Bumpy plot, chaotic staging, one-dimensional characters, lame jokes: ‘Black Adam’ is the previous low in the DCEU.“
In 2018, “Der Vorname”, the film adaptation of a French play about the question of whether you can still call your child Adolf these days, attracted more than 1.1 million viewers to German cinemas. So it’s no wonder that Sönke Wortmann rounded up his star cast of Florian David Fitz, Christoph Maria Herbst and Iris Berben to shoot a sequel. The problem with this: The play has no sequel – so the sequel played in Lanzarote “Last name” developed a whole new story.
The conclusion of the DashFUN review: “A (second) cheer for the dysfunctional family! Like ‘Der Vorname’, ‘Der Nachname’ is a fairly schematic, entertaining hodgepodge of sensitivities, which works primarily thanks to the well-rehearsed cast. The fact that the family holiday seems to have been constructed quite nicely towards the end in order to somehow be able to continue the super-successful predecessor is not as important as one might expect.”
As long as we’re all waiting for “Paddington 3”, there will now be supplies with a singing crocodile instead of a bear muffling jam sandwiches – and alongside the voice of pop star Shawn Mendes as the title reptile of “Lyle – My Friend the Crocodile” there is also the scene-stealing Oscar winner Javier Bardem in the role of a less talented stage zampano as a bonus…
The conclusion of the DashFUN review: “A lovable animated crocodile sings and dances its way into the hearts of a lively family – and Javier Bardem just does his thing! ‘Lyle – My friend the crocodile‘ fun and hearty, but narratively too hasty and erratic to live up to its full scaly potential.”
A German horror comedy, which takes place exclusively in an overturned dixi toilet and begins with Micaela Schäfer stripping to the music of Münchner Freiheit – even that sounds amateurishcringe of the worst kind, from the ironic title “Oh shit!” to be silent. But puff cake – who after the darker stuff like “Halloween Ends“ or “Smile” is in the mood for pure genre fun again, this insider tip is just right for you!
The conclusion of the DashFUN review: “Much better and more ambitious than the title and premise suggest! It’s all still a bit torn between serious thriller chamber drama and garish parody with fecal humor fetish and fun splatter finale. But in the best passages, debut director Lukas Rinker shows that he could be a great talent and a beacon of hope for German genre films. Look at you ‘Oh shit!‘ Definitely attend – if the rescue of the local genre cinema begins in an overturned dixiklo, you can say later that you were there!“
