Big Hollywood stars, the re-release of the most successful film of all time and one of the horror highlights of the current cinema year had to admit defeat to a production from Germany last weekend. Then no film attracted as many people to the local cinemas as “The School of Magical Animals 2” – and by far!
A total of 440,000 tickets were purchased for the fantasy family adventure, which started last Thursday. The film even trumps its successful predecessor, which had 250,000 visitors on its opening weekend last year and sold 1.8 million tickets in the end, almost playfully. Above all, however, it leaves the well-known competition from the dream factory behind.
led Julia Roberts and George Clooney hit the German cinema charts last week with their romantic comedy “Ticket ins Paradies”, but this week it is still enough for second place a third of the current number 1st place 3 occupied “Avatar – Departure for Pandora” to prepare for the December launch of “Avatar 2: The Way Of Water” this week, at least 110,000 people wanted to see it.
In fourth place is the horrifying shocker “Smile – Do you see it too?” (110,000 tickets), which we think is one of the best horror fans have seen on screen so far this year. Michael “Bully” Herbig’s “A Thousand Lines” concludes the top 5. The drama with plenty of star power (including Elyas M’Barek and Jonas Nay) attracted 75,000 visitors.

The biggest theatrical releases this week (October 6) are the visually stunning historical actioner “The Woman King” and the sci-fi coming-of-age adventure “Vesper Chronicles” – neither of which should be direct competition for the German family film hit.
The global figures also prove once again that James Cameron continues to attract the masses to the cinemas like hardly any other filmmaker. Like 13 years ago, the impressive, newly revised version of “AvatarA very special cinema experience that emphasizes one thing above all: The journey to Pandora is nowhere as much fun as in the cinema.
The September 22nd re-release of “Avatar’ now tops $58 million worldwide, bringing the film’s grossing to over $2.9 billion. It sets you apart from the current number 2, “Avengers: Endgame”, away. The Marvel mega-blockbuster is trading at $2.798 billion.
“Avatar 2: The Way Of Water” will be released in German cinemas on December 14, 2022. There is already a trailer – and if you buy a ticket for the re-performance of part 1, you will also get to see a first scene from the upcoming sequel immediately afterwards as the icing on the cake.
