It is rare for console manufacturers to disclose monthly sales figures by territory for their consoles. Nintendo, for its part, has a habit of updating the total worldwide sales of its consoles several times a year. Obviously satisfied with its latest results, the Kyoto firm recently communicated its US figures.
Nintendo recently released the latest US sales figures for various Switch models, including OLED. And that includes the initial Nintendo Switch OLED sales. As previously stated, the site The Verge was able to speak with Doug Bowser, the president of Nintendo of America. And it was during this interview that the latter revealed that Nintendo sold 711,000 Switch in the US last October.
No Switch Pro 4K, no problem
Even more interesting, Doug Bowser indicated that of this total, 314,000 consoles were OLED Switches. This means that 314,000 OLED Switches found buyers across the Atlantic during the month of its launch. And that 397,000 Standard Switch + Switch Lite were sold last month in the United States. This therefore means that 44.2% of Switches sold last month in the US were OLED models. For Doug Bowser, the OLED Switch has therefore made a solid start. And the figures for October are, according to him, an indicator of demand during the end-of-year celebrations.
Doug Bowser points out, however, a decrease in Switch sales of 3% compared to October 2020. Not surprisingly, component shortages and their impact on Switch production are singled out. Even though he explains that Nintendo is looking to offer a regular supply of Switch for the holiday season, uncertainties regarding the availability of the console remain. And according to the president of Nintendo, this situation will continue in 2022.
Nintendo Switch still at ease in the United States
As additional information, NPD Group explains that this total helped the Switch to finish at number one on the charts last month in the United States. And this both in terms of units sold and revenue generated. NPD Group specifies, however, that throughout the year, the PS5 remains ahead of the revenue side. The Switch is number 1 of the year in terms of the quantities sold.
Does this American difference give an idea of the sales ratio between the first two Switch models and the OLED version? Unfortunately, for lack of figures, it is impossible to say. These statistics revealed by Nintendo of America are nonetheless interesting. The American market is indeed the most important in the world.
What do you think of these figures? Do you think the ratio is similar in Europe and in France? Do you plan to get a Switch by the end of the year? If so, which model will you turn to? Tell us all in the comments below.
