Four years after “The Shape of Water” and its four Oscars (including Best Picture and Best Director), Guillermo del Toro is back with “Nightmare Alley”, whose trailer reveals the glamorous cast and l black atmosphere.

The Walt Disney Pictures

Guillermo del Toro is back! Four years after the triumph of The Shape of Water, winner of a Golden Lion in Venice and then four Oscars (including those for Best Director and Best Film), the Mexican filmmaker returns to the big screen thanks to Nightmare Alley, whose trailer has finally been unveiled.

Images that take us to a fun fair and in which it is not difficult to recognize the director’s style, both dreamlike and scary. With one detail: Nightmare Alley is presented more as a stylized thriller than a fantastic film, which would be a great novelty (and a nice risk-taking) on the part of its author.

And this even though there is mention of a monster, which should allow Guillermo del Toro to once again explore one of his favorite themes. The time of this story centered on an ambitious young showman, capable as a person of luring and manipulating people thanks to his talent for choosing his words, who joins forces with an even more dangerous psychiatrist than him.

All with a solid gold cast, where Bradley Cooper, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins, Toni Collette or even Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara meet, for a reunion eagerly awaited by fans of Carol, the drama signed Todd Haynes.

Expected on January 19 in French theaters, Nightmare Alley will be released in the United States on December 17 and will therefore be eligible for the 2022 Oscars race. And it promises to be both sumptuous and very intriguing, given the mystery that reigns in this teaser.
