While a sequel to “Volte / Face” is still being considered but is not moving forward, Nicolas Cage has mentioned a possible story. An interesting pitch that would involve the children of the two main characters of John Woo’s film.
Flip/Face : when Nicolas Cage and John Travolta exchange faces
The fans of Nicholas Cage know that there are a good number of memorable films in his filmography. Among those that will be remembered the most, there is necessarily Flip/Face (1997). An action film brilliantly directed by John Woo and carried by Cage and John Travolta. In it, the two actors sometimes play the terrorist Castor Troy, sometimes the FBI agent who pursues him, Sean Archer.
If in the first part Nicolas Cage is indeed the antagonist, and John Travolta the hero, the roles are then reversed. Or rather, the faces. Because after an accident, Castor falls into a coma. Problem, he placed before that a bomb in Los Angeles. The only way to find her is to talk to her brother Pollux, who is being held in prison. But there’s no way he’ll turn himself in to Sean.

Result, the latter agrees to submit to a surgical operation toswap faces with Castor’s. After which, he can pretend to be him to Pollux. Obviously, the real Beaver will wake up, and in turn take Sean’s face.
Such a scenario could have led to a nanar. But that would be misunderstanding the talent of John Woo. Flip/Face is a success on all levels, as much in the enjoyable action sequences of the filmmaker as in the delirious and varied interpretations of Cage and Travolta. Without forgetting a more complex scenario than it seems.
A sequel with Sean and Castor’s kids?
For a few years now, we have been hearing abouta potential sequel Flip/Face. It was first director Adam Wingard who in 2021 was announced to direct this film. The filmmaker had specified that, for him, a Volte/Face 2 could not be done without Castor and Sean. And so without Cage and Travolta. More recently (in 2022), Nicolas Cage mentioned discussions with producer Neal Moritz on the progress of the project. But in the end, nothing concrete for the moment.

Nevertheless, the actor continues to be questioned about it. In an interview with Colliderthis time he gave an idea that could be interesting for a sequel Flip/Face. For the actor, if the project really materialized, it could involve the children of the two main characters.
I think the sequel to Volte/Face could have a lot of twists and turns and unpredictable things. It’s almost like you factor in the idea of offspring. Castor and Sean having children, and these children having grown up, it becomes a kind of three-dimensional chess game. And then it’s no longer just a duel between John Travolta and myself, but a game of four-player ping pong at different levels and it becomes even more complex.
As a reminder, in the first film, Sean has a daughter, the teenager Jamie played by Dominique Swain. Castor also has a child, young Adam (David McCurley) picked up by Sean at the end. The idea mentioned by Nicolas Cage would therefore be quite possible. Unfortunately, the actor was not so reassuring about the real progress of Flip/Face 2. Always with Colliderhe specifies that he had “a meeting in an office one day“, but that since he has “heard nothing” and “don’t know where it is“. Something to cool us down.
