Brolin plays a rancher who is experiencing tensions.
“Outer Range” might be out of this world! The Prime Video series premieres April 15 and stars Josh Brolin as Royal Abbott, the head of a farming family in the Wyoming wilderness. As Royal meditates on his “dream life” with his family, things get complicated when the mysterious vagrant Autumn (Imogen Poots) arrives to discover the true meaning behind her spiritual connection to the Abbott farm. Yet a sinkhole forms on the Abbotts’ court, and a haunting symbol haunts the family. Now she forces her to test her beliefs amid paranormal experiences.
The story for the Western series was created by Brian Watkins and executive produced by Brolin, Watkins, Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment, Zev Borow, Heather Rae, and Amazon Studios. The series is part of Prime Video’s first-look deal with Plan B. The team produced “The Underground Railroad,” Barry Jenkins’ expanding and critically acclaimed Colson Whitehead adaptation for the latest broadcaster.
“Outer Range” also features Lili Taylor, Tamara Podemski, Tom Pelphrey, Lewis Pullman, Noah Reid, Shaun Sipos, Isabel Arraiza, Olive Abercrombie, and Will Patton. The series marks Brolin’s return to television as a lead actor, nearly 20 years after his role in “Mister Sterling.” The Prime Video series also heralds Brolin’s return to the Western genre following the Coen Brothers’ “No Country for Old Men.”
Brolin says, “What I understand is a genre that is fascinating to me, that I have a personal connection to. I get really excited when I see a very serious breed crossbreed with an interesting tone. I have to say that Outer Range was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. If you like that kind of thing, this is heaven. And it was heaven for me.” said. Brolin most recently starred in “Dune,” another ambitious sci-fi film from director Denis Villeneuve. “Outer Range” will premiere on Prime Video on April 15.
