“The Crow” was released in cinemas in 1994 and – not least because of the tragic death of leading actor Brandon Lee shortly before the end of filming – became a regular hit and a real cult film. Unsurprisingly, the film not only resulted in three (all pretty lousy) sequels, but soon there were also first reports of a remake or reboot.
What is surprising, however, is how long it took until something came of it: As early as 2008 (!) the plans for a reinvention of the “The Crow” series became known, but in the end the project should simmer in development hell for 14 yearsbecause directors (including Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Corin Hardy) and leading actors (including Bradley Cooper, Mark Wahlberg, Tom Hiddleston and most recently Jason Momoa) gave each other a hand in a wild dance.
Even when the start of filming on the new “The Crow” movie was announced in April 2022, one could still doubt that the film would ever come. But now the reboot is apparently actually turned off.
This is reported by the English-language site The Prague Reporter, which specializes in Czech cinema and filming in the Czech Republic. So nothing stands in the way of a release of the new “The Crow”.
Noisy The Prague Reporter the shooting took place at numerous locations in the Czech capital. Among other things, there was a scene in Prague’s Rudolfinum with numerous extras in evening wear, but also a scene in a kind of prison and an orgy in the style of “Eyes Wide Shut”. If this information is correct, the new “The Crow” will not be a 1:1 remake of the 1994 film.
Incidentally, a man who is very familiar with creepy white make-up slips into Brandon Lee’s big footsteps in “The Crow” reboot: Bill Skarsgård played the horror clown Pennywise in “IT” and “IT: Chapter 2” and is now to rock musician Eric Draven, who along with his fiancé (played by singer FKA Twigs) is mugged and murdered the night before Halloween and resurrected a year later by a crow as an immortal avenger.
Danny Huston (“Wonder Woman”) is also there, who has already played a number of villains in his career and will certainly embody a villain again. The Crow is directed by Rupert Sanders (Ghost In The Shell, Snow White And The Huntsman).
Since filming is now complete, the remake should be released by the end of 2023 at the latest – maybe fitting the Halloween theme?
