The lead actors of the series have been announced
Apple has commissioned the mini-drama series “Land of Women,” starring Eva Longoria and Carmen Maura. The six-part series is based on Sandra Barneda’s novel of the same name. Longoria will star as Gala from New York, whose life is turned upside down when her husband embroils the family in financial irregularities and is forced to flee the city with her aging mother (Maura) and college-aged daughter.
To escape the dangerous criminals her now-disappeared husband owes her debt, Gala hides with two women in the same charming wine town in northern Spain where Gala’s mother escaped 50 years ago and vows never to return. The women try to start life over and hope their identities remain unknown, but small-town gossip quickly spreads, revealing their deepest family secrets and truths.
The series is currently in pre-production in Spain and will be filmed in both English and Spanish and will be available to watch in both languages. Ramón Campos and Gema R. Neira are adapting the book for the screen, and Campos is set to serve as showrunner. Longoria will also serve as executive producer with Ben Spector under the name of UnbeliEVAble Entertainment. Teresa Fernández-Valdés will also serve as executive producer.
Carlos Sedes will direct this new series. Bamboo Studios will provide studio services to the show for Apple. This project is the latest Spanish production for Apple. The broadcast also features the thriller series “Now & Then” and “Acapulco” starring Eugenio Derbez, and the recently commissioned “Midnight Family” based on the documentary of the same name.
