In the course of yesterday’s “Silent Hill Transmission” the bomb burst: For a long time it was just rumors, but fans can actually look forward to a video game remake of “Silent Hill 2” soon. This will first appear as a console exclusive for the PlayStation 5, with a later version for the PC to follow. “Silent Hill 2” was originally released for the PS2 in 2001 and is not only considered the highlight of the series for many gamers, but is also one of the best horror games of all time (see also the article by our colleagues from GamePro here “The 25 Best Horror Games by the GamePro Editors”.)
But film fans also have reason to be happy because, as has now been announced, becomes Christopher Goosethe director of the first “Silent Hill‘ adaptation from 2006, a new ‘Silent Hill” film in scene. And how could it be otherwise: This will be based on the story of “Silent Hill 2”. Producer Victor Hadida has already announced that the horror film will be modern while also swearing allegiance to the video game. This is to say that well-known monsters (including the legendary Pyramid Head) do appear, but in an updated version.
Also interesting is the statement by Christophe Gans that the new “Silent Hill” strip should appear next year. Go ahead: “The script for the new film is completely independent from the previous two films and respects the way ‘Silent Hill’ has developed. Silent Hill is a bit like ‘Twilight Zone’, the fourth dimension, a place where anything can happen. I’ve been working on a new ‘Silent Hill’ which is a 2023 ‘Silent Hill’ as the film is due out next year. It’s no longer ‘Silent Hill’ like I imagined it would be back in 2006.”

In “Silent Hill 2”, the video game, the player slips into the role of James Sunderland, who ends up in the mysterious city of Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his wife Mary. That’s irritating because she’s been dead for quite some time. James encounters many obscure characters while searching for his wife and not only has to defend himself against monsters, but also solve numerous puzzles in order to solve the mystery behind Silent Hill.
In addition to “Silent Hill”, “Silent Hill: Revelation” was also released in 2012, in which Christophe Gans was no longer involved as a director and which received numerous negative reviews. In contrast to the film from 2006, which was praised above all for its atmosphere and aesthetics and is generally one of the best video game adaptations of all time. With “Silent Hill” Christophe Gans returns to the director’s chair after many years. His last film to date was Beauty and the Beast from 2014.
