From The Sandman to the Locke & Key finale to Season 2 of Fate: The Winx Saga, Netflix has been treating fantasy fans to some highly anticipated shows over the past few months. Great Fantasymovies on the other hand, the streaming service is much less common, so today’s restart is a welcome change. The School For Good And Evil is a fantasy novel adaptation that combines classic fairytale themes with a Hogwarts-esque magic school, and it’s packed with a whole bunch of top stars to boot.

Director Paul Feig (“Bridesmaids”, “Ghostbusters” from 2016) has brought together top-class actors in front of the camera for the adaptation of the novel by Soman Chainani: Charlize Theron (“Fast & Furious 8”), Kerry Washington (“Django Unchained”), for example, cavort at the eponymous school. and Michelle Yeoh (“Shang-Chi”) as teachers, and Laurence Fishburne (“Matrix”) as rector. In addition, there is also Cate Blanchett (“Thor 3″) as the voice of an ancient magical artifact. That’s quite a star cast that Netflix is bringing up here. However, at the heart of the story are two others.

The fantasy film is about best friends Sophie (Sophia Anne Caruso) and Agatha (Sofia Wylie) who are on the School For Good And Evil be included. There, young people are prepared for a fairytale career and trained to become either heroes or villains. Sophie is enthusiastic and desperately wants to become a good-natured princess. Agatha leans more towards the dark side. But then the two are sent to exactly opposite faculties. That’s roughly as if Harry Potter ended up in Slytherin and Draco Malfoy in Gryffindor!

Those who prefer gloomy realism to colorful fantasy will get an alternative with “The Stranger”. The crime thriller follows a man named Henry (Sean Harris) who, after a life of crime and grueling work, finally sees a chance for improvement when he meets stranger Mark (Joel Edgerton) on a plane trip. The two quickly form a deep friendship – at least that’s what Henry thinks. What he doesn’t know is that Henry’s new “boyfriend” is an undercover cop who wants to convict him of murder…

“The Stranger” caught our attention in particular because of its cast. We know Sean Harris best as “Mission: Impossible 5+6” villain Solomon Lane. And Joel Edgerton has already had a lot of career highlights: Be it the MMA drama “Warrior”, in which he fights with Tom Hardy, the gangster film “Black Mass”, in which he steals the show from Johnny Depp time and time again , or his directorial debut, which is well worth seeing, the psychological thriller “The Gift”. “Star WarsOf course, fans also know him as Luke’s foster father Owen Lars in the prequels and most recently in the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi.

at Rotten Tomatoes “The Stranger” stands at a remarkable value of 94 percent positive reviews (Status: 18.10.2022). Reason enough to at least take a look at the trailer, even if it is a bit difficult to understand in the original sound and without subtitles:
