The Finnish crime series “Deadwind” relies on the typical Scandinavian Nordic Noir flair. Season 3 starts today on Netflix – with a serial killer who gives the investigators a cruel riddle.

Fans of dark and disturbing crime thrillers are once again getting supplies from Netflix. The third season of “Deadwind” starts today, a series that fans of dreary Nordic Noir series like “The Killing” or similar Hollywood counterparts like “True Detective” in particular might enjoy. Because a serial killer is going around, who locks his victims in an animal cage and mauls them badly (see trailer below). In addition, the corpses are marked with symbols that pose riddles for the investigators: memories of thriller masterpieces such as “Zodiac” or “Sieben” are awakened.
If you don’t know “Deadwind” yet and are considering catching up on the series from the beginning, we recommend that you only watch the trailer for season 1, which we included at the end of the article. Here is the one for the new season 3:
That’s what “Deadwind” on Netflix is all about
“Deadwind” is a Finnish crime series in which there is a new big case every season, but which, in addition to the brutal crimes, also deals with the hurdles in the private life of the protagonist Sofia Karppi (Pihla Viitala). She is a police detective in Helsinki, the mid-30s, mother of two, and recently widowed at the beginning of the series. After the accidental death of her husband, she took a break and in season 1 she takes on her first case in a long time, while getting used to her new colleague Sakari Nurmi (Lauri Tilkanen). Over the course of the series, the two solve harrowing and complex murder cases, while Karppi has to prove herself at home as a single mother.
The series has received rave reviews in its Scandinavian homeland and Pihla Viitala even received the Finnish Television Award for Best Actress for her performance in Season 1. However, the series is much less well-known outside of Scandinavia, but that shouldn’t stop you from taking a look if you have a weakness for crime stories of this kind.
