The Fullmetal Alchemist anime adaptations have a large following. The series are also popular in Germany and this applies to both “Fullmetal Alchemist” from 2003 and “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood” from 2009. In particular, the much higher quality produced “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood” is still celebrated by fans today and is regarded as Anime masterpiece – which is also reflected in the IMDb rating. Here the series occupies a sensational 16th place and after “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and “Game Of Thrones” the third highest ranking fantasy series on IMDb (as of August 19, 2022).

However, the live-action cinema film, which was released directly on Netflix in Germany in 2018, did not get the “Fullmetal Alchemist” fan base so excited and was received as a mediocre implementation of the great template – an opinion that we also shared in our DashFUN review to have. Fullmetal Alchemist – The Revenge of Scar, the sequel to the live-action anime adaptation, launches on Netflix today. Has this film gotten any better? We have some doubts about that…
If you want great power, you have to be willing to pay the price for it! This applies in particular to the teachings of alchemy, which in this world always follows the principle of equivalent exchange. The brothers Edward (Ryôsuke Yamada) and Alphonse (Atom Mizuishi) Elric had to make a painfully high sacrifice for this realization. In an attempt to revive their mother, Edward loses his left leg while Alphonse loses his entire body. In order to enable his brother to continue living, Edward also sacrifices his right arm and binds his spirit to an armor, which he now inspires!
In Fullmetal Alchemist: The Revenge of Scar, the Elric brothers embark on a quest to find the Philosopher’s Stone. With this powerful artefact they would be able to revive their mother and also get their lost body (parts) back. But they’re not the only ones wanting to get their hands on the magical item. Scar (Mackenyu), a ruthless hitman with a prominent scar, stands in the way of the alchemists. To achieve their goal, the brothers must defeat this overwhelming enemy.
