In Shakespeare’s world-famous play, Romeo simply leaves his beloved for her cousin Julia sit. But what actually became of said Rosalinde afterwards? The playwright and lyricist himself does not provide an answer in his classic work. Cold as ice, he doesn’t let her show up again and her fate is simply unclear.
If that is not enough for you, you will now in the comedy “Rosalinde” just launched on Disney+ smarter. The feature film, which is obviously very lovingly equipped in terms of costumes and scenery, describes the whole affair exclusively from her point of view. Karen Maine (Yes, God, Yes) is directing, while (500) Days Of Summer writer Scott Neustadter wrote the screenplay. This is based on the novel “When You Were Mine” by Rebecca Serle (“Famous In Love”).

Booksmart star Kaitlyn Dever stars as The Spurned. The American is currently the daughter of Julia Roberts and George Clooney with “Ticket ins Paradies” in German cinemas. Also available to stream on Disney+ is the excellent 2021 miniseries Dopesick. Dever was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in it.
Other parts include Isabela Merced (“Suddenly Family”), Kyle Allen (“West Side Story”) and Sean Teale from “Skins”. With Minnie Driver (“Good Will Hunting”), Bradley Whitford (“Get Out”), Nicholas Rowe (“The Secret of the Hidden Temple”) and Christopher McDonald from “Thelma & Louise”, various veritable screen veterans are also important characters at the start.
“Romeo and Julia“ is the biggest Love-Story of occidental culture – for many of us the epitome of romance. But there is at least one person who doesn’t see it that way at all: Julia’s cousin Rosalinde (Kaitlyn Dever). Isn’t she, the Romeo (Kyle Allen) first promised his heart.
Verona in the 16th century: Rosalinde is head over heels in love with Romeo. She is sure that she is the only one for him and that the two are made for each other. She has had to wait far too long for her first kiss for her liking. When the time finally comes, she couldn’t be happier.
But only three days later pulls Julia (Isabela Merced), Rosalinde’s cousin and childhood best friend, suddenly back in town. When Romeo sees her, it’s all over him. And what is perhaps even worse: Julia returns his feelings. Rosalinde is shocked and terribly hurt, but she is far from ready to simply give up the love of her life.
One day you reported the naive Julia of a dangerous idea: Since both fathers (Christopher McDonald, Nicholas Rowe) of the newly in love are anything but happy with the liaison, she plans to fake her suicide in order to then elope with Romeo. Can Rosalinde stop her and maybe even win her ex back in the process?
