The creator of the Cobra Kai series made statements about the new movie.

Sony Pictures’ announcement of a new Karate Kid movie that will be released in 2024 has raised questions about whether the new movie will be linked to the ongoing and much-loved “Cobra Kai” series on Netflix. Co-creator of the series, Jon Hurwitz, announced on Twitter that the two productions will not be linked.
“The kids and I would love to make Karate Kid and Cobra Kai movies, and we hope to do it one day. But this movie is not from us and it’s not focusing on the Cobra Kai cast. I don’t know much about it,” Hurwitz said of the movie, which was dubbed “the return of the original Karate Kid franchise.” But I wish you well,” he said.
As of now, the project does not have any stars or directors. Reviews suggest that Cobra Kai stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, as well as cast from the original trilogy, were not involved in the project. There are some rumors that the movie could be a prequel showing the early days of Pat Mortia’s famous karate master character Mr. Miyagi, but no official announcement has been made yet.
The fifth season of “Cobra Kai” was recently released on Netflix. It is not yet known whether the popular series will continue with its sixth season.
