So shortly after the theatrical release of doctor Strange 2″ will not send a new blockbuster to compete with the Marvel adventure this week. But there is horror fare with the Stephen King film adaptation “Firestarter“ and German Vampire.

We admit: We too were a little surprised that This week the long-planned remake of Stephen King’s 1980s cult novel “Feuerkind” is in cinemas starts. After the release of a single trailer in February this year, there was a lack of a promotional campaign for “Firestarter“In the past few months, pretty much every trace.
And that the sci-fi horror thriller (which will also be released directly on the Peacock streaming service in parallel with the theatrical release in the USA) is now only a week after the theatrical release of the MCU mega blockbuster “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness” in the movie theaters shouldn’t exactly be conducive to public perception either.
That’s another reason why we want to go back to “Firestarter’ to draw our attention – but with the note that the film was not shown to us in advance and therefore, unfortunately, we cannot say anything about its quality. The release policy certainly raises skepticism, but at least those involved in the new King adaptation are quite promising…
Horror professionals at work
We would have liked to see how “Gegen die Wand” director Fatih Akin – as planned a few years ago – with “Firestarter” delivers his Hollywood debut, but a capable replacement was found in Keith Thomas, who already provided effectively (albeit much more minimalistic) horror cinema with his predecessor film “The Vigil – Die Totenwache”. The whole thing was also produced by the genre experts at Blumhouse Studios, who have been behind numerous horror hits in the past – from “Paranormal Activity” to “Get Out” to the “Halloween” reboot.
The leading role is played by young actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong (“American Horror Story”, “ES 2”), who has also tried horror, and who is thus following in the footsteps of Drew Barrymore. In the first “Feuerkind” film adaptation “Der Feuerteufel” from 1984, she embodied the protagonist Charlie McGee, who can only ignite a fire with the power of her thoughts and is therefore mercilessly hunted down by the government. Meanwhile, former High School Musical star Zac Efron stars as Charlie’s concerned father Andy.
Also new in cinemas: Vampire at the Baltic Sea
“Firestarter“ is already the biggest new cinema release on May 12, 2022. Nevertheless, we would also like to mention “blood suckers” at this point. After all, when do you get a Marxist vampire costume film from Germany that is bursting with creative and ludicrous ideas?
The main character of Julian Radlmaier’s new work (“Self-Criticism of a Bourgeois Dog”) is the factory worker Lyovuschka (Alexandre Koberidze), who was cut from a film by director Sergei Eisenstein in 1928 because he portrayed Leon Trotsi, who had recently fallen out of favor with Stalin embodied. When he then fled the Soviet Union, he ended up in a roundabout way and with a daring lie in his luggage finally in the Baltic Sea domicile of the wealthy vampire Octavia Flambow-Jansen (Lilith Stangenberg), with whom he fell in love…
