44 years after John Carpenter revolutionized (or even invented) the slasher genre with “Halloween: The Night of Horrors”, now starts with “Halloween Ends‘ the grand finale of David Gordon Green’s 2018 reboot trilogy in cinemas. Michael Myers and Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) finally meet face to face – and yet “Halloween EndsNot what most of us expected after the ultra-violent gore-fest Halloween Kills. A nice surprise – because the showdown really dares and will definitely split the audience, which is much more interesting than a sure conclusion that doesn’t offend anyone, but also doesn’t knock anyone off their stool.
The conclusion of the DashFUN review: After a successful resurrection with “Halloween” and the brutal bridge film “Halloween Kills”, “Halloween Ends“ now an entertaining-schizophrenic mixture of absurdities and innovations, which is framed by a grandiose prologue and a worthy ending. Especially the wonderfully stupid and creative decisions towards the end bring a lot of fresh air into the series, but at the same time they will offend many viewers. This consistent trilogy finale will definitely split its audience!
After “The Square” Ruben Östlund with his prosperity satire “Triangle Of Sadness‘ won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival for the second time in a row! His new film, in which an influencer couple takes part in a yacht trip for the super-rich before a dinner degenerates into a never-ending puke orgy, is not without controversy – is that super snappy or just flat? One of the big questions about cinema in 2022, on which everyone should form their own opinion.
The conclusion of the DashFUN review: Not always subtle, sometimes even banal, Ruben Östlund continues his preoccupation with masculinity and role models in “Triangle Of Sadness”, without ever reaching the sharpness or precision of the two trilogy predecessors “Fheere Majeure” and “The Square”.
While “The School of Magical Animals 2” dominates the family cinema charts, another children’s film is coming from Germany that deserves even more to be discovered – especially by very young moviegoers. Finally is “My chaos fairy & I” one of the few European animation productions that doesn’t have to hide from Hollywood competition – what it lacks in sophisticated technology it makes up for in creativity and fun.
The conclusion of the DashFUN review: The independent visual style as well as the turbulent, fast-paced, sometimes really exciting story about friendship and self-confidence make for one of the most beautiful animated adventures from European production in recent years.
