The “Resident Evil” films with Milla Jovovich are a remarkable special cinema case: Although fans of the survival horror video game series regularly complained about a lack of loyalty to the original and several entries in the film series brought bad reviews, the saga made it to a whopping six parts. And they certainly have their following: With a gross of 1.2 billion dollars, the action and horror blending “Resident Evil” series is the highest-grossing zombie saga in film history. It is also the third highest-grossing horror franchise in cinemas.
The series directed by Alexander Witt, Russell Mulcahy and above all by Paul WS Anderson has already received several complete sets on DVD and Blu-ray. Now Constantin Film is also providing an upgrade: On September 8, 2022, a 4K complete set of the “Resident Evil” series will be released for the first time. The collection is limited to just 1,000 pieces and numbered.

The series around Jovovich in the role of Alice ran fairly reliably in cinemas from 2002 to 2016, even if the sequels “Resident Evil: Apocalypse”, “Resident Evil: Extinction”, “Resident Evil: Afterlife” and “Resident Evil: Retribution “ were quite confusingly titled for outsiders and only “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter” appeared again in a self-explanatory way. Following the theatrical release of the reboot “Welcome to Raccoon City”, which is closer to the games, question marks have popped up again:
Then at $42 million, the franchise’s cinematic reboot took in just over a seventh of what Resident Evil: The Final Chapter generated at the box office. Although plans have already been formulated as to how the new film continuity will continue, a sequel has not yet been denied or officially announced. So these are uncertain times for Resident Evil fans given the Netflix series’ quick end…
