Netflix announced the 2022 calendar with a trailer that features first glimpses of upcoming movies such as Rian Johnson’s Knives Out sequel, The Russo Bros.’s The Gray Man, and Jamie Foxx’s vampire movie The Day Shift. The star-studded trailer, released on Thursday, features the actors speaking directly to the camera while in character. Some appear in full costume, including Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill from Enola Holmes 2, Kerry Washington and Charlize Theron from The School For Good And Evil. Gray-Man star Ryan Gosling and Day Shift’s Foxx sing their lines mid-action sequences.
Other stars featured in the 2022 trailer include Jennifer Lopez, Ryan Reynolds, Halle Berry, Chris Hemsworth, Jason Momoa, Mark Wahlberg, Kevin Hart, and Queen Latifah. The streaming service, which has a total of 222 million paying subscribers worldwide, plans to release one new movie a week this year, including Knives Out 2, which is considered one of its key gems. Netflix bought the rights to two sequels in the series starring Daniel Craig for $469 million last year.
On January 21, Netflix shares fell after the company predicted slower subscriber growth. Shares continue to drop from January highs but are still very high and started to rally last week. Co-CEO Reed Hastings, who bought an additional $20 million of Netflix shares last week, was among those swept up to buy shares on the decline.
