The cheap subscription with advertisements arrives on Netflix but at what price? The new formula clearly does not please everyone and we understand why.

Advertising is coming to Netflix. Recently, the streaming giant announced a new low-cost subscription that would allow you to take advantage of the service for only a few euros, against a few concessions. And it’s worse than expected.

The Netflix subscription with an ad, the bad idea?

Netflix has never hidden its desire to integrate ads into its service, and it is now official. From November 3, 2022 at 5 p.m. French time, the “ Netflix Essential with ads will be available with a single screen. Invoice 5.99 euros per monththis new subscription will display an average of 4 to 5 minutes of advertising per hour of viewing for a duration of 15 to 30 seconds before or during content. Some will not be able to be passed as is the case on YouTube for example. The streaming platform also promises its advertisers targeted advertising, by country and by type of program (comedy, sci-fi, drama, action, etc.). It will therefore be imperative to give your name, email, date of birth and gender to subscribe to the new Netflix subscription.

The beat also hurts in terms of content. Some films and series will not be available, at least initially. 15% of the classic offer must indeed be renegotiated with the studios, which had initially signed for broadcasts without advertising. The download will not be required, so it is impossible to access films and series offline. You thought it couldn’t be worse? The Essential with ads package will only offer video quality up to 720p (HD). This will also be the case for the classic Essential subscription from now on. The platform hopes to conquer a new public discouraged by the various price increases with this formula.
