Wilmer Valderrama will soon play the famous masked hero in a reboot of the “Zorro” series. Will this new project compromise his participation in the next seasons of “NCIS”?
Will Wilmer Valderrama say goodbye to NCIS anytime soon? While he has been playing Special Agent Nicholas Torres for 5 years now, the actor discovered in That 70s show has just signed to play Don Diego de la Vega, alias Zorro, in a remake of the cult ABC series broadcast in the 1950s.
In development at Disney Branded Television, the series is described as a reinterpretation of the version worn by Guy Williams, which will take place in the Pueblo de Los Angeles (the 19th century city that was the basis of today’s Los Angeles).
According to Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, this classic will be told in “a very modern telenovela style – with richly drawn contemporary characters and relationships, also with action, drama, suspense and iconic humor from the original Zorro“.
According to Deadline, Wilmer Valderrama said he was enthusiastic about playing a character from the Latino community. “Growing up, Zorro was the only character who, as a Latino, made me feel that I too could be a hero. As an adult and a storyteller, I have a responsibility towards those I help bring to life“, he explained.”By partnering with Disney to bring Zorro back to life, I fulfill a dream of letting other children know that they too can be the heroes of their own stories.”.
At this time, we don’t yet know if this new project is going to affect Wilmer Valderrama’s future in NCIS. Since season 14, he has played Mark Harmon and Sean Murray in the famous CBS series. He may therefore have to leave this role aside in order to put on Zorro’s mask. Response in the coming months …
