Since a traumatic incident in her childhood, So-Yeon (Minyoung Park) has suffered from severe claustrophobia. Maybe the stray cat that she runs into one day while working as a pet hairdresser can help her with all her fears? But then So-Yeon finds out the very next day that the cat only ran around freely because its previous owner died in an elevator in a horrible way. The police are asking So-Yeon to continue looking after the cat while the investigation is still ongoing.
But with the new four-legged roommate there are also terrifying visions: Su-yeon and her friend Bo-Hee (Da-Eun Sin) keep seeing a little girl, who actually can’t really be there. In addition, more and more corpses of cat owners are turning up – and at some point Su-yeon can no longer resist the suspicion that her visions and thus her cat are closely connected to the horrific deaths…

Incidentally, “The Cat” is not a very late contribution to the great South Korean horror wave – it actually started in South Korean cinemas in the final stages of the genre’s high in 2011. In the USA, the home cinema release, which was largely well received there, also followed in 2013.
In Germany, on the other hand, it took eleven years for the film to be released here on DVD & Blu-ray. So do not worry: “The Cat” is not cheaply cranked out post-gossip – but part of the hype of the time. So fans of the genre should probably take a look, even if “The Cat” isn’t one of the great classics of those years…
