After the hit “Murder Mystery” in 2019, Netflix has put a sequel in development. And if we hadn’t heard from the project for a while, Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler have just teased this second film.
Murder Mystery will be entitled to a sequel
In 2019, Murder Mystery was released on Netflix. The film centers on Nick and Audrey Spitz, an American couple who decide to take a trip to Europe for their 15 years of marriage. They end up by chance on the yacht of a playboy with whom they have sympathized. But soon after, the rich owner of the boat is murdered, even as he was about to sign his inheritance. Nick and Audrey then become the main suspects, and decide to solve the investigation themselves to prove their innocence.
Murder Mystery had made a big hit on Netflix. Over 31 million subscribers discovered it soon after its release, making it the most viewed feature film of the year for the streaming giant. Without much surprise, a sequel was therefore quickly announced. Since then, however, it seemed to have been put aside since no more news of the project had filtered. Corn Deadline had said a few weeks ago that this second film was indeed still planned.
The second film hoped for in 2022
These are now Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler who teased this sequel via a video on the occasion of Netflix’s Tudum event. There you can see the performers of Audrey and Nick Spitz discussing what to expect in Murder Mystery 2. David Spade also joins the conversation, and we can therefore expect that it will also be present in the credits of the second film.
It is already established that Jeremy Garelick will succeed Kyle Newachek in directing. Garelick will adapt a screenplay written by himself and James Vanderbilt, who had previously signed the script for the first film. The production of Murder Mystery 2 it will take place near Paris and the Caribbean, and could start soon. This would allow the film to be released in 2022, especially since the shooting should not be very long.
