The passion for their marriage has faded and as soon as they return home, the spouses resume their particularly boring routine. Moments for two that completely clash with their working days, since Jane and John are two fearsome killers employed by two competing agencies. The problem is that neither of them knows the real job of the other. “We ended up doing all this crazy stuff together”
When the filming of the film begins in January 2004, Brad Pitt is in a relationship with Jennifer Aniston. Angelina Jolie is single and mother of little Maddox, whom she adopted in Cambodia two years earlier. In 2006, while the headliners of Mr. and Mrs. Smith formalized their relationship, the actress remembers during an interview for voguecited by TV Star :
I wasn’t sure exactly where Brad was in his personal life, but it was clear he was living with…someone he loved and respected. (…) I think we were the last people looking for an adventure. For my part, I was not at all, I was rather happy to be a single mother.
The duo befriends by sharing moments on shooting ranges, but also by training in dance. Angelina Jolie adds:
Because of the movie, we ended up doing all this crazy stuff together and I think we discovered this strange friendship, which happened out of the blue. Everything we did together brought us a lot of joy (…) we became a kind of tandem.
Additional filming dates where everything changes
Once the filming is over, the actress and her on-screen partner would each have resumed their lives on their side. They met nevertheless for additional shots organized in Italy during the summer of 2004.
