With “MotoGP Unlimited” Amazon takes us to the heart of the premier competition of the motorcycle world championships. A program that is aimed at fans and neophytes, but which, for a first season, could have been more explanatory in certain areas.
After F1, make way for Motorcycles
Since 2019 Netflix offers its subscribers to relive the Formula 1 world championship thanks to the documentary series Pilots of their destiny. While the fourth season was released on March 11, for its part, Amazon wanted to bet on MotoGP. A less popular sport in France than football, for example. But which, as with Formula 1, could attract new followers thanks to the Prime Video show.
Built in the same spirit as Pilots of their destiny, MotoGP Unlimited takes us to the heart of the 2021 Motorcycle Grand Prix. We discover the different manufacturers and especially the riders in their daily lives, between and during the races. This allows us to understand a little better what motivates these boys and their personal issues. Are present in particular Valentino Rossi, probably the most famous rider, who at 43 is still trying to win the 200th victory in MotoGP. But also Frenchman Fabio Quartararoeager to be titled since his youngest age, the titleholder Joan Mir or the Australian Jack Miller.
The underside of the MotoGP championship
With this series, Amazon Prime Video seeks to touch both fans of this sport and neophytes. However, we can’t help but feel a certain lack when our knowledge in this area is more than limited. An overview of the sport as a first episode would certainly have helped better understand all the ins and outs of MotoGP. Who are the best builders, why are they dominant, and what are the goals of each? Here are the kind of questions we ask ourselves and which only come up in snatches over the episodes.

Also, instead of just focusing on one or two pilots each episode, MotoGP Unlimited navigates between different personalities. We thus regret the absence of a marked common thread, even if one or two pilots are always more highlighted during an episode. However, it must be admitted that this dive into the heart of the competition has something captivating. Because it is still a dangerous sport with the risk of serious accidents. It is in these moments of anxiety that the series provokes the most emotion.
For its first season, MotoGP Unlimited lays the foundations for a program that could benefit from fine-tuning over the years. To discover from March 14 on Amazon Prime Video.
