Fans influence future
The hype about “Lycoris Recoil” isn’t abating and accordingly there are always new news and other interesting topics about the surprise hit of the summer season 2022.
A frequent contact person in this context is director Shingo Adachi, who, like last week, is again in a interview Questions and answers are available. We have translated this in full for you below this line.
This time it’s about the future of “Lycoris Recoil” and the current developments in the anime, be warned of possible (slight) spoilers.
Interview with Shingo Adachi
“This interview will be released when the ninth episode airs. Now that Chisato’s secret has been revealed, we finally understand her true nature.”
“Is that so? Anyway, while Chisato’s remaining time is indeed short, maybe ours are too. We could die tomorrow. In that sense, we have the same problems as Chisato, but we try not to notice them. In the case of Chisato, ‘death’ and ‘time’ were inevitable.
I was exposed to different philosophical perspectives. Some people even say that ‘the idea of death is scarier than the idea of dying’. Chisato has carried this horror with her since she was a child, and yet she is able to keep her radiance. I think that’s the real secret of Lycoris Recoil.”
“Chisato and Takina’s farewells in the ninth episode were memorable.”
“This scene was special because in the original script, Takina ran out and ran away when she saw the snow. But the storyboard check made me think of Chisato (laughs). Because the snow she wanted to show Chisato finally fell, and the words she had just said to her – ‘If you give your all, good things will happen’ – came true.
Looking back, she saw Chisato with a ‘do you understand now?’ look. Takina doesn’t know if she’s on the right track to rescue Chisato. But you could hear her say, ‘It’s not over.’
»In the opening of the anime, the strong friendship between the two is shown. The depiction of the separation is really sad.«
“That’s the point of an opening. Actually, the two should be given more time, but we can’t show all that in the main animation. The time between Chisato and Takina should also be left partly to the imagination of the viewers.«
“Now that we’ve covered the opening, a word on the ending. Is it true that the ending takes place in Takina’s room?”
»So or something like that (laughs). Takina is naive and has no hobbies, so she doesn’t buy anything, but Chisato recommends all kinds of things to her. The lyrics of the ending are also about it. Chisato helped her buy many things. ›You will dance when you hear this, right?‹, ›I think having that in your room would look bad‹, ›It doesn’t make sense, but it’s fun!‹. One imagines that such conversations took place.«
‘The story is coming to an end. It appears that there will soon be a direct confrontation between Majima and the DA.”
‘Looks like it. I wonder what viewers think of Majima.«
“Majima’s true intentions are still unclear, but it seems like he has his own reasons and doesn’t seem like a simple villain.”
“I don’t think people can bear to be considered evil. They all think they are on the side of justice in one way or another. The DA keeps the peace in Japan, but it is not authorized by the public. And Majima doesn’t like that. It is a fight of selfish justice.«
»The contradictions that the DA is confronted with are also addressed in the first episode. So that’s a tough question.”
“Oh no. I don’t want you to have to think about such difficult things (laughs). My only wish is that people look at how Chisato and Takina work in an irrational world.«
“As serious as this is, you really just want viewers to see the tender and sensitive side of both of them.”
‘They’re cute, but are they fragile? From Chisato and Takina’s subjective point of view, what adults do is not the main problem. Although the girls present different problems and incidents in the society around them, we don’t want to forget that it’s only from the perspective of the two girls. If the opportunity arises, we could show Lycors Recoil from a different perspective.”
“Regardless of whether it even comes to that. Is it possible?”
“Naturally. Something like telling the everyday life of the cleaners in the series. ‘These girls always make a mess,’ they complain while cleaning everything up to make it look like nothing happened. Or isn’t that interesting? (laughs)«
“That’s correct. But in general, the everyday moments in the LycoReco café also look fun.«
»I would have liked to have made more short stories set in the LycoReco café. I had prepared several cute menus like ‘Takina’s Special’ from Episode 8, but I couldn’t draw that much. Regrettable. But with the continued support of viewers, I may finally get a chance to draw these stories. Thank you everyone for the support!«
