Against all expectations, Mathieu Kassovitz will direct a new film in English. He will direct Daisy Ridley in “Mind Fall”, a futuristic thriller where memories have become a real drug.
Mathieu Kassovitz is back!
As a director, Mathieu kassovitz was an interesting and complex author. But it’s been ten years since we last saw him behind the camera. The Director of Hate (1995) and The Crimson Rivers (2000) has been “content” with an actor role since Order and Morality in 2011. Suffice to say that the announcement of Deadline of the return of the filmmaker with a director’s cap is a small event. And all the more so when we know that his experiences in the United States with Gothika (2003) and Babylon AD (2008) did not go very well. There was also to testify Fucking Kassovitz, a mind-blowing making of behind the scenes of the shooting of Babylon AD in which we see all the difficulties Mathieu Kassovitz had to direct the film and especially the star Vin Diesel.
Mathieu Kassovitz therefore returns with a new project in English, titled for the moment Mind Fall. In addition, in order not to do things by halves, the director will have the opportunity to direct Daisy ridley, revealed thanks to the latest trilogy Star wars. The actress would indeed have been hired to wear this futuristic thriller to say the least intriguing.
Souvenir dealer Daisy Ridley
In the screenplay we will find Graham Moore, the screenwriter ofImitation Game. The film will be set in London, in the near future where memories have become the source of trafficking. These are physically removed from one person’s brain and implanted in another’s brain using new technology and thus allow all kinds of sensations to be experienced. Daisy Ridley will be Ardis Varnado, a trafficker responsible for extracting these memories and reselling them to the highest bidders. But these memories are a real drug which, by force, no longer make it possible to distinguish the real and a memory. Ardis herself will be struggling with her own memory addiction and will be accused of the murder of one of her clients. She will then conduct the investigation to clear her name.
The story of Mind Fall is therefore rather interesting even if the theme of memories has already been used in the past as in Strange Days. More recently, Reminiscence addressed this theme, just like the Apple series Dr. Brain. We will remain attentive to the evolution of this project.
