Successful actor Milo Ventimiglia wants to continue his partnership with NBC after the end of This Is Us. The actor and DiVide Pictures sold the drama script Hometown Saints to the channel. The project will be led by 20th Television, the Disney-backed studio behind This Is Us, with DiVide under a general agreement.
Hometown Saints revolves around Billy Riedell, a retired hockey player who tries to figure out who he is when his career is over. The hockey maniac returns to his hometown of Minnesota and is reluctantly coaching a girl’s high school team. Grainne Godfree and Derek Elliott will pen the script and produce it with DiVide’s Ventimiglia and Russ Cundiff.
Godfree most recently served as a consulting producer on Marvel’s upcoming Disney Plus series Secret Invasion starring Samuel L. Jackson. His work includes seven seasons of The CW’s DC drama Legends of Tomorrow, for which he was promoted to executive producer. He recently developed The Inheritance Games at Amazon and penned Duende for Netflix.
Elliott wrote Klein, starring Garrett Hedlund and Abbey Lee. He also has a co-screenplay in the Scoob animated movie. DiVide Pictures is also developing Only to Deceive, a drama on ABC based on Tasha Alexander’s bestselling novel And Only to Deceive. Ventimiglia is not affiliated with either project as an actor.
