Michael Douglas will play Benjamin Franklin in a new series about one of the most important historical figures in United States history. This will focus on the period during which the famous polymath went to France to negotiate the financing of American democracy.

Benjamin Franklin will soon be entitled to a new serial biopic. Several works have already told different periods of the Boston native. Because one who has taken on several roles during his life, including those of printer, writer, inventor, abolitionist, and politician, is one of the most famous figures in American history. And it is as often his political actions that will be highlighted.
Thereby, Apple TV+ has decided to launch the adaptation of A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America. Published in 2005, the book was written by Stacy Schiff. The latter is a writer recognized for her biopics and has even won a Pulitzer.
The story of the book focuses on the bet Franklin made when he was then 70 years old. Namely that of trying to convince France which was at that time an absolute monarchy, to financially support the politicians of his country when the latter wanted to establish a democracy. This mission was one of Franklin’s most important contributions to the victory of the United States in the Revolutionary War. And therefore to the establishment of the first government of the country.

Timothy Van Patten, who notably signed episodes of Boardwalk Empire, Game Of Thrones, or black-mirror, will box this new project based on a screenplay by Kirk Ellis. The latter is a specialist in historical series. In particular, he worked on John Adams and Sons of Liberty. And after being played by several actors in previous fictions about his life, Franklin will this time be played by Michael Douglas.
No shooting date has been announced yet. for the show adapted from A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America. But according to Deadline, Apple TV+ began casting several months ago. And the official arrival of its headliner is a great step forward for the project.
