The name Wachowski seems inseparable from “The Matrix”, whose iconic first installment hit theaters in 1999. But did you know that Warner Bros. would have released a fourth opus with or without the co-creator of the franchise?
Matrix Resurrections : in pursuit of the white rabbit
In this fourth part, the saga obviously plunges viewers into two parallel realities: that of the everyday world, but also the one that is not easily seen. Thomas Anderson, aka the famous Neo, will once again have to improvise Alice if he wants to learn more about himself. Fortunately, he now knows how to exit – or enter – the Matrix. But important information escapes him … the Matrix is more powerful, better guarded and more dangerous than ever. Will he be able to access what he is looking for by avoiding the obstacles that it will place in his path?
Since its release on December 22, the film science fiction has garnered mixed reviews. While many spectators say they are disappointed with Matrix Resurrections, there are generally improving criticisms from the press! Equally, who says new shutter says new faces. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are therefore joined by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen), Jonathan Groff (Mindhunter) or Jessica Henwick (Love and monsters). You can also find Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother), Jada Pinkett Smith (The Williams Method), Priyanka Chopra (Quantico) or Lambert Wilson who is back in the skin of the Merovingian.
Without Lana, nothing goes
In an interview with our colleagues from Collider, one of the film’s producers, James McTeigue, speaks about the genesis of the project. If we are to believe his words, the possibility of a fourth opus has always been considered, with or without Lana Wachowski. A theme also very present in the film.
When you have a franchise with such a high earning capacity, there are always discussions.
The producer therefore confirms that a sequel was indeed planned by the studios. The latter saw at the same time a way to earn money and of tell new stories specific to the universe conceived by the Wachowski sisters. Several plot ideas have emerged, but the rare pearl was missing… until Lana Wachowski returns.
Understanding that the latter had the intention and the desire to return behind the camera for a new opus, the choice of studios was quickly made. They logically decided to follow the author-director at the origin of the saga! Note that the sister of the latter – and co-creator of Matrix -, Lilly Wachowski, did not wish to return to the project for personal reasons.
The producer of the feature film tells the return to the fold by Lana Wachowski in detail. The latter gave him a call to explain that an idea had occurred to him. Something had just happened in his life. Something that him made you want to renew with the characters of Neo and Trinity.
So she calls us and says, “Hi, this is what I have in mind. This is the story. Are you interested?”
The studios couldn’t resist the return with great fanfare of the filmmaker. And the latter put
