Matrix 4: a long-awaited return

22 years ago, Neo (Keanu Reeves) appeared on our screens. In the near future, this hacker discovered that reality was in fact only one huge simulation called Matrix reducing the human species to slavery. Matrix Resurrections: the unexpected return
While the audience thought they were saying goodbye to Neo and Trinity in Matrix Revolutions, director Lana Wachowski decided to bring them back to life in the well-named Matrix Resurrections. Expected on our screens on December 15, the film was unveiled there A few days with a first trailer that raised many questions (including one).
Bringing these characters back to the forefront, almost twenty years later, is surprising. Recently, the director spoke about the reason that had pushed her to bring them back.
A powerful personal reason
It is during the Berlin International Literature Festival that Lana Wachowski revealed the reason for this return. The director explained that he was inspired by a personal drama: the death of his parents and a close friend.
My father died, then this friend, and then my mother. I wasn’t sure how to handle this kind of grief. I hadn’t experienced it so closely. I knew their lives were going to end, but it was still very hard. I take refuge in the imagination all the time. One evening when I was crying and couldn’t sleep, the whole story of the movie dawned on me. I couldn’t have my mom and dad, but I could have Neo and Trinity, the two most important characters in my life. I immediately felt a deep relief to be able to find them. And in a very simple way. OK they’re dead, but you can choose to bring them back. And it feels good ! (…) it is the beauty of art, and of stories. To be there to comfort us.
Matrix Resurrections is to be discovered in theaters from December 15, 2021.
