What if a tiktoker had unwittingly announced the return of a major Eternals character in an upcoming Marvel movie?
On November 3, Marvel Cinematic Universal fans discovered an atypical film within the universe: The Eternals. Directed by Chloé Zhao, Oscar winner for Nomadland, the feature film follows a group of heroes from the ends of the universe. The latter have protected the Earth since the dawn of humanity.
When the Deviants, monstrous creatures long thought extinct, mysteriously reappear, the Eternals are once again forced to come together to defend humanity.
SPOILER WARNING! IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE FILM, PLEASE READ NO FURTHER.
At the end of the film, we discover that Richard Madden, alias Ikaris, betrays his family and turns against the Eternals. After realizing the harm he has done, he flew off into the sun, obviously intending to sacrifice himself after his abuses.
This ending has puzzled many fans, who have issued many theories about the fate of Ikaris. What if he wasn’t dead? This is what the post of a tiktokeuse, relayed by the site suggests. TheDirect.com.
“When your brother is a stuntman and his next job is a character returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe”, she wrote in the caption of a snapshot.
RICHARD MADDEN BACK IN THE MCU?
The young woman, Emmy Kennard, is the sister of stuntman Joe Kennard, stand-in for Richard Madden in the Marvel film. It is also he who will perform the stunts of the British comedian in the future Citadel series. Kennard is therefore a regular collaborator of Richard Madden, following the actor in his physical roles.
Therefore, if we trust the declaration of his sister, the stuntman will again be Madden’s understudy in an upcoming MCU-stamped film. It remains to be seen in which feature film Ikaris could return. Emmy Kennard does not specify besides if it is about a film or a series.
THE ETERNALS ON DISNEY+?
Why not the possibility of a prequel series on Disney+? Screenwriters Ryan and Kaz Firpo mentioned it last November in the columns of HollywoodReporter :
“We could go back in time and do an episode on Kingo [Kumail Nanjiani, ndlr] in 1890s Mumbai, where he juggles his life as a movie star against the backdrop of Gandhi’s peaceful dissolution of the British Empire in India. There could be an episode with Thena [Angelina Jolie, ndlr] where she is in Greece.
I would love to do this series. There are lots of opportunities. If the public allows it, there will also be a story to tell with Dane Whitman [Kit Harington, ndlr]. There is also going to be a story to be told in the Cosmos with the Eternals taking on Arishem and all of the Celestials who are these incredible metaphors for creation. I think there’s a lot of story in the Eternals universe.”
Obviously, Joe Kennard could double another Marvel character in a new production, the Maison des Idées having surely been satisfied with his work on The Eternals. However, his collaboration with Richard Madden seems solid and it is very likely that he will continue to follow him within the MCU, if Ikaris were to return.
Note that Joe Kennard is very experienced in his field. He notably officiated on Justice League, Star Wars 9, Solo, Jurassic World 2 or Fantastic Beasts 2.
