At 53, actor Dave Bautista will appear one last time as Drax in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3’. A chapter he is relieved to close, showing himself as grateful as critical towards this role, now determined to engage in more dramatic performances.
Dave Bautista on the rise
Dave Bautista has been making a name for himself in the cinema for a decade now. He owes his revelation essentially to his interpretation of Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, a role very appreciated by the fans of the MCU which he resumes in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Avengers : Infinity War, Avengers :Endgameand Thor : Love and Thunder. He will take it back one last time in Guardians of the Galaxy 3 This year. Apart from these Marvel productions, he was also an antagonist in Spectruma member of House Harkonnen in Dunea robber in Army of the Deadand most recently a colorful Youtuber in Glass Onion…

In 2023, in addition to his last performance as Drax, we will see him in Dune : Second part and in M. Night Shyamalan’s new movie, Knock at the Cabin. Thus, permanently removed from the WWE rings where he experienced his first glory, Dave Bautista is now a recognized actor whose filmography is beginning to look very good. So it is with unfeigned relief that he will turn the page of the period Guardians of the Galaxysaying he doesn’t want his “legacy” boils down to what he did with Drax.
“I just want to be a fucking good actor”
It’s in a portrait dedicated to him by GQ that Dave Bautista returned to his role as Drax. A role that made him “cry” when he learned that he had obtained it. But today, more and more noticed and requested by the filmmakers who matter in Hollywoodit’s time for him to move on, and be honest about his feelings.
I’m so grateful for Drax. But it’s a relief that it’s over. It was not entirely satisfactory. It was hard to play this role. Makeup exhausted me. And I don’t know if I want Drax to be what I’d be remembered for. It was a “silly” performance, and I want to do more dramatic roles.
Thus, Dave Bautista decided to assume and formulate what everyone may have felt: he is a real comedian. And it is not for the taste of fame that he holds this position. As he develops it, being fully active is his goal, with the aspiration to be respected by his sisters and brothers.
I never wanted to be the next The Rock. I just want to be a fucking good actor. A respected actor. Frankly, I don’t care about being a movie star. I don’t have a big glamorous life, I live here in Tampa. Being in the spotlight doesn’t interest me, I don’t care about fame. I just want to be a better actor, I want to be respected by my peers. I don’t need awards, really. It’s for the experience, and it’s for knowing that I’ve accomplished something.
Is Hollywood ready to make room for the “new” Dave Bautista? What is certain is that he is ready to take risks and continue on its brilliant path.
